Ambepussa Railway Station

The first train travelled from Colombo to Ambepussa in 1864. Therefore the Ambepussa Railway Station is one of the earliest stations in the island.

The village from which it derives its name is 6km away on the old highway to Kandy, whereas the station is situated in the village of Keendeniya. The original station has been converted into railway quarters known as Gal Bangalawa. The present station consists of a building for the ticketing counter and another for the platform. These two units are connected by an overhead bridge above the rail line. The ticketing counter building has a hipped-roof and masonry columns. The platform building 1s a series of gable roofs connected by horizontal gutters. The buildings are in a fairly well-preserved state.

Location: Ambepussa station is located at Keenadeniya village facing Warakapola~Kandalama-Meerigama road.
