Beddewewa Ancient Temple

This ancient temple is located by the side of the Sooriyawewa-Mirijja Road, in the village of Beddewewa. The 'Mal Aasanaya' or the stone table for offering flowers was brought to this temple from the Mal Aasanagala Hermitage. This temple is situated on a rock, the highest in the vicinity, amidst lush green paddy fields, and dates back to the Anuradhapura period.

This temple initially had buildings on the rock where the Stupa is and around the rock. A natural depression of the rock forms a rock pool that the temple's resident monks probably used. The temple is near the Karambagala and Madunagala hermitages which were very prosperous temples during the Anuradhapura period with many resident monks living here.
