Budulena Rajamaha Vihara

This Vihara is situated 2 km from the Baranduwa Junction, which is 2.5 km from Sannasgama Junction along Banagoda road connected to the Ratnapura-Pelmedulla highway.

This beautiful rock cave was known as Bujaslena in the past. The existing shrine room is attributed to King Rajadhi Rajasinghe (17801798 AD). There is a reclining Buddha statue measuring over 31 feet in the Vihara. The Buddha statue to the right of the main image depicts features similar to those found in the sculptures at the famous Dambulla cave temple. The images of deities within the Vihara are believed to be creations of the Kotte and Sitawaka periods. The shrine room has been erected on a stone platform at the summit of the rock, and the other buildings are accommodated in the compound thereof, An ancient stupa, a secret cave, frescos. Makara figures and cobras are predominant features. It is believed that in the sculpturing of the images, a mixture of paddy husk, coir yarn, pamba creepers and clay had been used.
