Dalukgolla Purana Raja Maha Viharaya

Dalukgolla-vihara is situated in the ancient village of Ampitiya of the Gangawata K6ralé of Pata Héwaheta; at present, it is within Gangawata Kéralé of Kandy. The village of Ampitiya is met along Kandy-Talatuoya road. The Dalukgolle-vihara is situated a short distance away from Ratemulla Mawata, abutting the mountain to the right.

This Vihara had been constructed on the orders of King Kirti Sri Rajasinha in the year 1765, mainly for the benefit of the monks visiting Senkadagala from Héwaheta and Nuwara Eliya. The King had donated the vihdra to Venerable Werasara Rambukwelle Dhammarakkhita Anunayaka Thera. The cremation of Venerable Velivita Sangharaja had taken place at this Vihara. The tomb of the Sangharaja where the ashes were interned is found in this Temple. The original construction by the King in 1778 had later been renovated in 1965. The cremation ground of the Vihara has been used on several occasions to cremate the Nayaka priests of the Malwatta Chapter.
