Dipuyyana (Deepa Uyana)

This is located to the west of the wall surrounding the palace complex of King Parakramabahu the Great and extends up to the bund of the Parakramasamudra. According to the chronicle, the White House, Science Pavilion, Sports Pavilion, Palanquin Pavilion, Mayura, Sani, adasa, srngara pavilions, palace and ponds were found there. Among the buildings, the audience hall and the bathing pond could be identified. Nissankamalla renamed the complex Nissankamalla Park.

The audience hall and the palace must be Nissankamalla’s work. At present, there are two ponds near the Rest House by the bund of the Parakramasamudra. One is the circular pond at a higher elevation, and the other is the square pond with pillars below and remains of the building in the lake close to the Dipuyyana can be the summer palace of King Nissankamalla. These belong to the Dipuyyana. The Dipuyyana is part of the citadel itself. There is evidence that there had been a wall surrounding the dipuyyana, the Temple of the Tooth, Siva Dévale No.1 and the Visnu Devale. During recent times the main road had been constructed through this wall.
