Monks Residence Gadaladeniya Rajamaha Vihara

An inscription dated to the third year of king Bhuvananaka Bahu IV (1341-1351A.D) describes the construction of a shrine and other buildings at Gadaladentya temple.

The Awasa Ge (monks’ residence) at Gadaladeniya has a typical central courtyard. Six bedrooms, office rooms, a dining hall, kitchen etc., are built around this central open space. The wooden pillars of the courtyard, the pitched roof covered with Peti Ulu (flat clay tiles) and the Kandyan style doors and windows are the characteristic features of the building.

The building is well maintained by the priests.

Location: The building is about 50m away from Gadaladeni junction along the Pilimathalawa-Davulagala road in the Kandy district.
