This Devalaya is situated on the Warakapola road 2 km from Karawanella junction linked to the Kegalle-Avissawella highway in Ruwanwella.

There is a claim that this devala originated during the Anuradhapura period. It had gained prominence during the days of King Rajasinghe I of Sitawake. The King had extended patronage and had made many offerings to the devala. A flag bearing a figure of the deity, Kataragama, on blue and pink coloured cloth is a rare object found at the devala. The lay priests performing religious rights are descendants of Sri Rama Brahmane and Sri Narayana Brahmane from India. Out of the seven anklets brought by these Brahmins, four are still found in the Devalaya. One of the priests in charge of the devala is known as Sri Rama Brahmane Kadadora Kapuralalage Gunadasa, which indicates his Brahmin connections.
