KEMPITIKANDA TAMPITA VIHARAYA

The Kempitikanda temple is situated 3 Km from Pathampitiya town, off Rabukkana- Mawanella road. The temple premises consists of an "Awasagae' (monk residence) and "Dhana Salawa' (refectory) on one level and a higher level the Image house, Bo tree and "Devalaya" (Shrine of gods).

It's believed that the temple was constructed in the 1740s. And is known by the locals as "Bodhirukkaramaya", possibly referring to the large Bo tree nearby.

The image house is on eight, 3’-0" feet high stone pillars. The roof rests on walls and 11 wooden pillars. A wooden railing runs around the verandah.

The seated Buddha statue faces the entrance and two standing Buddha statues on either side. The paintings were of the Kandyan era. The temple's interior is full of paintings, along with the ceiling of the verandah.
