Konduruwapola Tampita Vihara

It is believed that Meegastenne Adikaram built this sampitavihara. He was assisted by the Asarana Sarana Saranankara Sangaharaja Thero who had lived at the Maddepola Rajamahavihara. King Kirti Sri Rajasimha (1747 ~ 82) provided the resources for the construction work. It is believed that this vihara and the image houses at Nakkawatta, Bihalpola, Godagamvela and Kahatawila were built during the same period.

The image house stands on 16 stone pillars. The beams, which carry the load, are of very large sections. The inner shrine houses five statues, the seated Buddha statue in samadhi mudra (meditative positioning of hands), which is the largest, two standing Buddha statues and two standing statues of Gods. The Konduruwapola Tampitavihara has an outer wall on the periphery. There are four small openings, which allow light and ventilation into the interior. The Department of Archaeology has restored the hipped-roof and other dilapidated building elements with assistance from the Provincial Council.

Location: The Tampita Vihara is situated in Konduruwagama in the Kuliyapitiya divisional secretariat area in the Kurunegala District. It is accessible from the Kurunegala (Natammiala)-Kuliyapitiva main road.
