Triangular panorama unseen and unheard anywhere in the world, it towers majestically over the secluded ancient village of Meemure situated in the eastern border of the Kandy district. It is also the only rock in the whole world, named after the country where it stands. Also, probably the most elegant rock (Lakegala) in the world, as the people of Meemure has very aptly named it. A proper development plan could make this mountain peak a unique centre of attraction for tourists, mountaineers, adventure travellers and nature lovers the world over. Leiter, a renowned geographer (1949) referring to the panorama witnessed from the Corbet Gap, described it as the most scenic area he has seen in the world. It was also used as a device like a sundial to calculate time in the Rawana Kingdom. In ancient times this rock was known as Lanka Pabbatha or Lankagiri.
