Monks’ Residence

According to the available historical information, the main image house of the temple and the other buildings were built by the minister Senadi Lankara during the reign of king Bhuvanckabahu 1V (1341 -51) in 1344.

Some parts of the building have been changed recently. The building consists of wooden collonaded verandas, a living room, seven-bed rooms, a central courtyard, a refectory, a store and a Library. The roof is covered with Peti Ulu (flat clay tiles). The monks’ residence is located close to the main image house and the Devale. The building is maintained by the priests and the villagers of I Lanhkanlaka.

Atu Ge lankatilaka Vihara

According to the available historical information, the main image house and the other buildings of Lankatilaka temple had been built by the minister, Senadilankara, during the reign of king Bhuvaneka Bahu 1V in 1344.

The Atu Ge (paddy storage structure) has two chambers built on timber platforms supported on 18 stone pillars. The platforms are about 45cm above the ground and so protect the paddy from dampness and vermin. The thick walls are made of clay. The gable roof has been covered with half-round clay tiles.

It is located close to the monks’ residence and the main image house. The building is maintained by the priests of the temple and the villagers of Lankatilaka.

Location: The atu ge is located about 2km from Lankatilaka junction on the Pilimathalawa-Davulagala road.
