Marassana Gama Meda Ambalama

At the time of the original construction, the whole structure of the ambalama (resting place) at Marassana had been of timber and the roof covered with straw. Reapers had been fixed very close to each other, enabling the roof to be covered with straw. The wood that was used was gansuriya for reapers and mee and gansuriya for rafters.

According to folk tales, the timber of the Hanguranketha Royal palace, which was burned by the Dutch in the 17th century, had been used to construct this ambalama.

The pitched roof of this small ambalama is supported on sixteen carved wooden pillars with decorative pekadas (column heads). This ambalama is located near a paddy field. The building is maintained by the villagers of Maraceang.
