Meepitiya Mandalarama Purana Tampita Viharaya

The Meepitya Purana Viharaya is situated on a small hill abutting a paddy field on the Kegalle.

The small Tampita Viharaya is built on eight granite stumps.

Route: 1 km from Kegalle town and 1.5 km towards Kandy, you can see this temple site on the right side near Kandy road.

When you go to Meepitiya Tampita Vihara, you will first find the Dharma Hall and the Sanghawasa buildings. They are buildings built during the English rule. About 200 meters away from these buildings is the Tampita Vihara on a plateau near the paddy field, and next to it is the modern Vihara Mandir with the Sagda Bodhi tree.

This is a small Tampita temple. It is 15 feet long and 10 feet wide. There is no pradakshina path here. The temple was built by building a 4 feet high stone foundation and filling it with soil, and placing stones on it. In front of the entrance to the temple is a wooden staircase with two steps.

Meepitiya Tampita Viharaya was preserved in 1007 by the Department of Archeology.
