Pinkumbura Ambalama Molligoda, Mawanella

The Ambalama (Sinhala: අම්බලම) is a simple structure that was designed to provide shelter for passing travellers. There were no charges for using the premises of the Ambalama as it was made, as an offering of goodwill (Pinkama).

Mawanella Molligoda Pinkumbure Ambalama is a small square stone Ambalama. This is known as Devatakumbura Ambalama and Heenatipana Ambalama. Standing in the middle of a fertile paddy field, this stone hut is a beautiful sight. The Ambalama is built on a stone base about 2 feet high. Large blocks of finely cut stone have been used for this purpose. There are 4 stone pillars carved in a simple way. The upper and lower parts of the pillars are square, and the middle part is octagonal in shape. The construction of the Ambalama is recorded in Sinhala letters on one of the pillars of this Ambalama.

Accordingly, this Ambalama was built in 1947 with the patronage of a private philanthropist. Today the roof is dilapidated. This Ambalama is not an Archaeological monument as its not 100 years old.
