Nedigamwila Wilpita Rajamaha Vihara

Situated near the Kirindi Oya, this is a large monastery site. The location of this Vihara is along Tissamaharama-Kasingama road, 8 km away from Tissamaharama. There is a stupa and many other buildings at this monastery dating from the Anuradhapura period (3rd century BC to 11th century AD).

Like most other temples in the region, this temple was deserted with the change of capitals and fell into ruin until the 18th century, when areas were colonised once again.

The Archaeology Department restored the Stupa recently. A brick pavement that surrounded the Stupa is no longer visible. The Stupa was constructed on a terrace, and there are many pillars scattered around in clusters below the stupa terrace. A new image house and a residence for the monks had been constructed during recent years.
