Ranwela Ancient Vihara

This Vihara is situated just 1.5km from the Kegalle town and was the site of a tempita vihara, which decayed over time. Tempita viharas were a unique style of the house found in most Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. Very unusual and characteristic inimitable architecture designs adorn these structures. Tempita viharas became a signature mark of many Buddhist temples during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Ranwela Ancient Vihara houses a shrine room attributed to King Kirthi Sri Rajasinghe's period. Beautiful floral designs of the Kandyan Sittara Art can be seen on the ceiling, and other grand sculptures and paintings of the Kandyan period are valuable specimens of this Vihara.
