Rathganga Vihara (Punchi Dambadiva)

This vihara is situated close to Ratganga, which can be reached by travelling on the Ratnapura Gilimale road to Malwala junction—and proceeding 6 km along Gallella road and a further distance of 10 km after taking a left turn.

It was first established as a small college for Buddhist monks in 1981. It is now a flourishing vihara having a large shrine complex accommodating 80 chief disciples of the Buddha. With images of 24 previous Buddhas, the preaching hall 250 ft by 62 ft is believed to be the largest one in Sri Lanka. Plans have been made to expand the vihara complex to accommodate a new library, residential quarters for monks and a scene depicting the final passing away of the Buddha.
