St. Sylvester's College - Kandy

St. Sylvester's College was established as a Catholic School on 1st November 1940 with an intake of 250 students and a staff of 12. It is one of the leading schools in Kandy town. The first principal was Rev. Fr. Robert M. Perera, who served for nine years and was followed by Mr D.G.M. Seneviratne, an outstanding educationalist promoted to the rank of director of education in 1961. This school was taken over by the Government in 1961. At present, over 3,400 students receive their education from a staff comprising of 150 teachers. St. Sylvester's College is situated close to the Kandy Secretariat along Yatinuwara vidya.
