Trinity College - Kandy

After the British occupation of the Kandyan area, several members of the Kandyan aristocracy embraced Christianity. The need was felt to establish a school to provide education in English to the children of the new converts. Frazer & Gipsom, two Christian Reverends, launched the 1st school in Kandy by admitting five students in 1860. This school is known as Trinity College and is one of the leading educational institutions in Kandy. The school is administered by the Anglican Church and is presently serving over 3,000 students. It is located at the end of Trincomalee Street towards Matale. Trinity College is well equipped with all facilities, including a dairy and a poultry farm. This school Served the boys of leading aristocratic families in Kandy at the beginning. Recently a separate school was set up as Hillwood College for the benefit of girls.
