Viharahinna ancient temple

This ancient shrine is situated along the gravel road beyond Moragolla at a distance of one kilometre on the embankment of Maweva. Moragolla village is linked to the MataleKurunegala road about 2 km beyond Galewela, travelling towards Melsiripura. Located close to the Kahalla range of mountains, the environment is a pleasing sight with an abundance of nadun trees.

A large number of ancient viharas of North Matale within Kandapalla korale is located close to mountains. Of them, Viharahinna is an outstanding monument and site. There are three stupas, a two-storeyed shrine room and an image 11 feet in height. The chamber around the image of the vihara contains ancient pillars of various shapes. An inscription probably belongs to the 10th century with carvings of a dog, a crow, and a drum. A figure of a bull, ancient bricks were belonging to the Polonnaruwa period and a donatory inscription attributed to the Anuradhapura period bear testimony to this vihara's antiquity.
