Weligodapola Tampita Viharaya

This temple is located in the middle of the three mountains of Alagalla, Kobbegala and Bolagala, adjacent to the Thumpane Mahaomba Oya and the Weligodapola Oya.

The Tampita Vihara is believed to have been built in 1776 under the guidance of Ven. Meddachala Thero. The canopy is painted Jataka stories and the inner walls with Chulladharmapala and Wessanthara Jatakas.

The Vihara can be reached from Kandy, take to Aladeniya road from either Peradeniya or Kandy and travel up to Galagedara. Then take the road to Rambukkana after crossing the Rambukkana Oya in approximately 10 km and just before Hatharaliyadda town takes the narrow road. The Vihara is a short distance on this road.
