The Uva province is mostly part of the mountainous country. Haputale and Namunukula ranges run through this area, with many rivers and reservoirs.
The cool climate of the highlands is ideal after days on the sunny beaches of Sri Lanka. Quaint and colourful towns dot the landscape in between the tea plantations that blanket the full mountainside. Badulla and Ella are considered today, as romantic locations thanks to the sparkling waterfalls that are hidden among the lush scenery. Trekking in the hilly plantations. Bird watching or spotting wildlife of bears, elephants and deer at Maduru Oya and Udawalawe national parks, homes to former Veddas tribes, are a treat to the nature lover. Visiting the aboriginal people’s villages offers visitors the opportunity to connect with past history and their rich cultural heritage.
