Wegowwa Ambalama

Wegowwa Ambalama The Ambalama (Sinhala: අම්බලම) is a simple structure that was designed to provide shelter for passing travellers. There were no charges for using the premises of the Ambalama as it was made, as an offering of goodwill (Pinkama). 

Wegowwa Ambalama is located in the village of Wegowwa. The Ambalama is believed to have been built by a regional king named Sakalakala Vallabha during the late 15th century. However, it lacks the typical architectural features of an Ambalama found in the Kandyan region. Constructed with bricks and mortar and a single room with a half-height wall around the building. The roof is clad with semi-cylindrical clay tiles (Sinhala ulu). It has been renovated and painted in white and blue, destroying much of its original appearance.
