THE PLACE
Rangala Natural Pool is a rock pool in a mountain stream near Kotaganga village, in the Knuckles foothills of Kandy District, Central Province. The village of Rangala, close to the Knuckles Conservation forest and the Kotta Ganga, about 35 km northwest of Kandy city, sits at an elevation of roughly 1,050 metres (3,440 ft). Water gathers clear between smooth rock walls before continuing downstream.
The setting is attractive, but strong currents, sudden changes in depth, and slippery rock have made the pool dangerous.
