THE PLACE
Asgiri Maha Viharaya is one of the two principal monastic centres of the Siyam Nikaya and shares custodial responsibilities connected with the Sacred Tooth Relic. Its origins are traced to the early fourteenth century. The wider complex includes old and later temples, monastic buildings and the Adahana Maluwa, the former royal cremation ground of the Kandyan kingdom.
