Biso Maligawa

Biso Maligawa, a name usually translated as Queen's Palace, stands within Kandy's former royal and sacred precinct near the lake. Accounts place it among the quarters once occupied by relatives of Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, the last Kandyan king, close to what was Maliban Street — the same neighbourhood the existing record already points to.

Beyond that, the sources disagree. Some tourism accounts describe a low-roofed building standing east of the Aluth Maligawa and west of the museum, its lower floor identified as the palle wahala, or harem, and go further still, equating the whole structure with the Ulpange, the queen's bathing pavilion built at the lake's edge in 1806. But the Ulpange has its own separately documented history — as a bathing house, later a library, later a police post — and none of it uses the name Biso Maligawa. This identification may be a conflation introduced by one tourism-board source and repeated by others, rather than a settled scholarly identification. It is best taken, for now, as one fragment in a palace landscape that has not been fully sorted out.
