Daulagala Ambalama

Daulagala Ambalama stands at the meeting of Watadeniya Road and the Peradeniya–Gadaladeniya Road. The present wayside rest was constructed in 1914 near the old cart track and was declared an archaeological monument in 1974. Four carved granite pillars support its double-pitched Kandyan-style roof, which is covered with flat clay tiles. Inside, the seating is arranged at three levels—a surviving reminder that even a shelter open to travellers could reflect the social order of its time. The Department of Archaeology maintains the structure.
