THE PLACE
Getambe Ferry marks an old crossing point on the Mahaweli River, at the eastern edge of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya. It is no longer run as an ordinary passenger ferry.
The site's significance now is ceremonial. After five nights of the Randoli Perahera, the Kandy Esala Perahera closes here, on the Mahaweli at Getambe, with the Diya Kepeema, the water-cutting rite.
