Girisiri Darshanarama Purana Tampita Viharaya (Batuwita Vihara)

Girisiri Darshanarama Purana Tampita Viharaya, also known as Batuwita Viharaya, is situated in a small village called Batuwita, between Urapola and Amirthigala in Kirindiwela in Gampaha district. 

This Tampita Vihara (Temple on Pillars) was built by Deva Pathiraja, a powerful minister during the reign of King Parakramabahu II (1244 -1279) of the Dambadeniya kingdom. The paintings in the inner chamber belong to the Kandyan era. And sed to believe it's over 100 years old. 

Take a close look at the bo tree; the horizontal trunk is supported by pseudo trunks created by massive aerial roots. Today the Vihara is under the protection of the Archaeology department.
