THE PLACE
An iron lattice-truss bridge across the Mahaweli River at Katugastota, built during the British period and opened in March 1860. It rests on masonry piers and once carried an important approach into Kandy.
Later road bridges took over most of that traffic. The old bridge survives on its piers, still standing.

Use the bridge only where public access is permitted and follow any safety barriers. Keep clear of traffic approaches, do not climb the metalwork and take extra care when the deck is wet.
