THE PLACE
Kalugala Gerandi Ella is a long cluster of cascades rather than a single fall, descending Gerandigala mountain near Kalugala. Several of the upper stages are visible from the Mahiyanganaya road, and the full descent is often put at roughly 200–240 metres.
The distant view from the road understates it. Reaching the falls means a remote, steep route considerably harder than what the roadside glimpse suggests.

The full hike includes very steep and exposed terrain and should not be attempted without experienced local guidance, suitable equipment and stable weather. The safer option is the distant road view.
