THE PLACE
The Kataragama Devalaya stands within the historic shrine precinct of Kandy's old royal city. It is dedicated to Kataragama Deviyo and remains a functioning place of worship.
The devalaya takes part in the ritual life of the Esala Perahera. Its shrine buildings are compact, and the courtyard is where the place is best taken in quietly.
