Kondadeniya Rajamaha Viharaya

Kondadeniya Rajamaha Viharaya stands on elevated ground in Katugastota, in the Harispattuwa area north-west of Kandy. It is an active Buddhist temple, open daily from six in the morning to seven at night, with wall paintings, carvings, and a set of Buddha statues on the hilltop site.

Local tradition holds that the land was granted by royal decree, and that the temple ranks among the older ones in the Kandy area, but no sannasa or other record has been traced to support either claim. Neighbouring temples in Harispattuwa - Degaldoruwa, Kundasale, Medawala, Palkumbura - have documented royal grants; Kondadeniya, so far, does not.
