Madawala Inscription

The inscription is carved on a stone slab on a property known as Akuraketugalewatta, in Madawala, Pathadumbara. It is officially listed as a Protected Archaeological Monument under the name "Madawala inscription," gazetted on 23 February 2007. The gazette notice itself describes it simply as an "inscription on the mountain range in land called Akuraketugalewatta" — the same property name by which the site is still known.

Published accounts associate the text with a writer named Jothi, though this attribution has not been independently confirmed here. Its date and purpose remain unread in any accessible source; what stands confirmed is the inscription's existence and its protected status, not yet a full epigraphic reading.
