Magul Maduwa of the Kandyan Palace

Magul Maduwa, the Audience Hall of the Kandyan palace, was the setting for royal councils, administration and court proceedings. Construction is said to have begun in 1783, though sources differ on whether it was ordered under King Rajadhi Rajasinha or King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha. The long open pavilion is carried on rows of carved timber columns beneath a broad tiled roof. It also became a stage for major events after the kingdom fell, including the formal transfer of authority to the British in 1815.
