THE PLACE

Tampita Vihara (Temple on Pillars) is a unique type of image house found in some Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. These buildings have a distinctive architectural design. In the 17th-19th century, these Tampita Viharas were a popular aspect of many Buddhist temples.

Mahalloluwa Sri Saddharmarama Purana Tampita Viharaya or know by the locals as Sri Saddharmarama Purana Tampita Viharaya is situated between Kirindiwela and Urapola in Gampaha District. Tampita Viharaya consists of two stories with the upper floor being the image house and the lower level being the preaching hall. The roof of Vihara is clad with Singhala Ulu.
