THE PLACE
Malagammana Rajamaha Viharaya sits behind a black-stone entrance, its image houses holding Kandyan-style paintings and statues alongside a large reclining Buddha.
The temple's history is tied to the reign of King Bhuvanekabahu V of the Gampola kingdom. An earlier Tampita shrine on the site was destroyed during the unrest of 1818; the present temple was built in 1872 by Nugawela Disawe.
