Marble Statue of Queen Victoria

This marble statue depicts Queen Victoria in coronation robes and was commissioned to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee. Sculpted by George Edward Wade from Carrara marble, it originally stood in Colombo and was moved several times during the following century. It has since been installed in the Victoria Dam area as part of plans for the surrounding visitor zone. The monument’s unusual journey from the colonial capital to a modern engineering landmark forms a significant part of its story.
