THE PLACE
Naranwala Ambalama is a square wayside shelter raised on a high stone platform, built before 1905 by C. D. Walgampaya. Four tall stone pillars support the structure, their middle sections cut octagonal, and the pekada capitals above them are carved with human faces. Inside, the seating runs around the interior at different heights.
It stood on the old road between Kandy and Lankatilaka, built for travellers to rest.

The raised platform and old stonework require care, particularly in wet weather. Use local directions, park without blocking the road and do not climb on the pillars or carved capitals.
