Kandy Pattini Devale

Kandy Pattini Devale is one of the historic shrines associated with the former royal and religious precinct around the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. It stands west of Natha Devale, where the two sites were once separated by a road known as Elephant Street. The exact foundation date is uncertain, but references to its procession during the seventeenth-century reign of Rajasinghe II show that the shrine was established by that period. The building is a modest rectangular structure on a stone platform, divided into four compartments beneath a broad Kandyan roof. Pattini is traditionally associated with chastity, healing and protection.
