THE PLACE
Perumal Ella is a waterfall of about ten metres on the Galmal Oya, a stream that runs down into Victoria Reservoir several kilometres below, in the hill country near the Knuckles Reserve in Kandy District.
It is little known and undeveloped as a destination. The drive in runs from Kandy through Digana and Udawela to Udispattuwa, then along a road that gets progressively rougher until it stops being passable by ordinary vehicles. From there it is on foot: across the river and up a footpath along the bank, through cleared plantation land and over boulders. Local guidance is worth arranging before setting out - published detail on the falls themselves is thin.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER'S NOTES
Confirm the exact approach and current conditions locally. Keep away from wet rock, steep edges and fast water, especially during or after heavy rain.
