THE PLACE
A simple stone pillar at Bomure marks the place associated with the capture of King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe on 18 February 1815. It stands on a low stepped base near an old tamarind tree, erected in 1908, nearly a century after the event it commemorates.
The king was taken into British custody and later exiled to India. His capture brought the independent Kandyan monarchy to an end.

The site is reached by a short walk from the Medamahanuwara area and the path may be poorly marked. Ask locally for directions, respect nearby fields and avoid visiting after dark or in heavy rain.
