Radella Archaeological Site I

Marked on record as a site of ruins beside the Pottuvil-Panama road, near the village of Shastrawela in Ampara District, Eastern Province. The only tag attached to it links the site to Sinhalese civilization, alongside a generic classification as ruins — no plan, no measurements, nothing on record to say what stood here or when it fell out of use.

It lies near Panama, a coastal village some distance south of Arugam Bay. The wider Kumana area, adjoining Panama, is generally associated with a settlement horizon reaching back to the third century BC and rock inscriptions cut a couple of centuries after that — but that history belongs to Kumana broadly, not specifically to this site, which for now is a name and a set of coordinates and little else.
