THE PLACE
At Eladatta, a mature tamarind tree stands inside a low circular memorial surround. A plaque records the reason: this is where Robert Knox, an English sailor, was captured by forces of the Kandyan kingdom in 1659.
There is no larger monument attached to the story, just the tree, the low ring, and the plaque. It reads as what it is: a modest village landmark.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER'S NOTES
The memorial stands in a village setting. Park without blocking access, avoid damaging the tree or plaque, and keep noise low around nearby homes.
