THE PLACE
The Sagama rock inscription stands at Nugaliyadda, near the Sagama Rajamaha Viharaya. Its twenty-one lines date from the ninth regnal year of King Bhuvanekabahu V and record a land grant tied to offerings made to the deity Natha and the Deity of the Na Tree.
The text provides early written evidence connecting Natha with the protection of the up-country kingdom.
