THE PLACE
Samangala is an ancient forest hermitage arranged around a dramatic rock landscape. Numerous drip-ledged caves, including the broad shelter known as Raja Lena, are scattered through woodland and preserve traces of early monastic life.

THE PHOTOGRAPHER'S NOTES
Go with someone who knows the paths. Carry water, watch for wildlife and do not mark cave walls or inscriptions.
