THE PLACE
Sri Narendrasinghe Rajamaha Viharaya stands at Kundasale, close to the former palace landscape connected with the Kandyan kings. Documentary accounts place the temple’s establishment in the reign of Kirti Sri Rajasinghe, while the wider area is closely associated with his predecessor Vira Parakrama Narendrasinghe. Surviving historic elements include the image house and temple buildings rather than a complete royal complex. The value of a visit lies in seeing a relatively quiet religious site within a landscape that once belonged to the political world of the Kandyan kingdom.
