Udathalawinna Purana Bomalu Tampita Viharaya

Udathalawinna Purana Bomalu Viharaya preserves a Tampita Viharaya from the Kandyan period less than ten kilometres from Kandy. This shrine type places the sacred chamber on a wooden platform carried above the ground by stone supports. Timber holds the roof, while the enclosed chamber follows the wattle-and-daub tradition associated with many hill-country Tampita shrines. The approach beyond a paddy field helps separate the small historic structure from the busier roads around Katugastota.
