Udunuwara Wattappola Ambalama

Wattappola Ambalama is a solid granite wayside shelter associated with the old route between Kadugannawa and Gampola. An inscription at the building records that it was constructed in 1918 by Wattappola Dingiri Banda Varakavulla. The compact pavilion is built from granite blocks and has continued to receive repairs from descendants of its builder. Later surface treatment has covered some of the dark stone, but the shelter’s simple masonry form remains clear.
