THE PLACE
Ulapane Fool's Bridge crosses the Mahaweli River with its main steel archwork set below the roadway, which earned it the familiar name "Upside Down Bridge." The Public Works Department began construction in 1903, and the bridge opened on 2 November 1904.
Its narrow deck and unusual structure recall the transport routes built through plantation country under British rule.

Use a safe place off the roadway and do not stand on the bridge for photographs. Traffic, wet steelwork and fast river water make close exploration hazardous.
